The New Christy MinstelsThe New Christy Minstrels is an American folk legend ensemble and with three of original members including founder Randy Sparks, is slated to perform at the Woodlands Auditorium, Hot Springs Village, Thursday, November 18th, at 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Hot Springs/Hot Springs Village Symphony Guild, the Grammy Award winning group is scheduled for one performance only. Tickets are $25 each and Guild Members were offered advance sales. Public ticket sales begin November 8th at the Woodlands Box Office. For more information regarding tickets call 922-2567.

Formed by Randy Sparks in 1961, the group had several Top 40 folk music hits, "This Land is Your Land," "Today," and "Ramblin." "Green, Green" sold over one million copies in 1963, and was awarded a gold disc. Current members of the group include the founder, Randy Sparks, with originals Dolan Ellis, and Pete Henderson, joined by Becky Jo Benson, Eddie Boggs, Jennifer Lind, Greg O’Haver, and Dave Deutschendorf (who just happens to be the Uncle of John Denver!). The New Christy Minstrels' film score for the 1964 comedy movie, Advance to the Rear, featuring Glenn Ford and Stella Stevens, was the first complete soundtrack ever made in the folk music style. The score is notable for the hit standard "Today" and several others, including "This Old Riverboat" and "Company of Cowards" (the original title). The soundtrack album has been re-released on CD as "Today."

The performance is likely to be sold out, so be certain to note when tickets go on sale to the general public. Tickets are offered to Guild members first, so becoming a member is advantageous for concerts such as this. Majority funding for the Guild’s philanthropic work which includes music scholarships, gifts of band instruments, band trips and other area school musical activities along with donations to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, is derived from memberships and individual donations to the organization. You can be a part of this musical outreach into the communities surrounding Hot Springs by joining nearly thirteen-hundred others by becoming a member.

Members enjoy advance ticket sales, seating preferences, and selected complimentary concerts. Call Linda Biagini, Membership Vice President at (501) 922-6121 or Email her at cbiagini@suddenlink.net.
